SIAC: Tortoitich leads the way for the Tiger Track Team


Atlanta, GAThe Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announces the 2011 Track & Field All-Conference and All-Academic Teams.

The men’s team is led by track athlete Dickson Toroitich of Benedict College and field athlete Turner Coggins of Morehouse College. Toroitich ran a time of 9:36.21 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase during the Shamrock Invitational and 15:29.19 in the 5,000 meters during the Wofford Invitational, earning All-SIAC first team honors in both events. Coggins had marks of 14.85m in the shot put and 44.68m in the hammer throw at the Jackson State Relays along with a mark of 52.69m in the discus at the Stillman Relays, earning All-SIAC first team honors in all three events.

    Bc Track & Field Standouts

    Women:

    Gabrielle Nixon Sr, from Inagua, Bahamas: Won the SIAC Female Athlete of the year in the Field Events by scoring a total of 25 points. She placed 1st in the Shot Put with a 40′ 4″ (12.64m), 1st in the Discus Throw with a 131’5″ (40.7m), 4th in the Hammer Throw with a 128’01” (39.05m) and 8th in the Javelin Throw with a 89’4″ (27.22m)

    Camille Clemmons-James Jr, from Columbia, SC: Placed second overall in the 100m Dash with a 12.15 and fourth overall in the 200m dash with a 25.05. She currently ranked no. 24th in the nation in the 100m dash and 18th in the 200m Dash.

    Annalece Nembhard SO, from Kingston Jamaica: Placed 3rd in the Discus Throw with a 125’9″ (38.34m), 3rd in the Shot Put 37’8″ (11.50m), 4th in the Javelin throw with 103’2 (31.45m)

    Shanterria King Fr, from Atlanta, GA placed 5th in the 400m Dash with a 59.24.

    Charvez Holmes Sr, from Atlanta, GA: Placed 5th in the Javelin Throw with a 94’9″ (28.89m), 6th in the Discus Throw with a 116’6″ (35.50m), 7th in the Hammer Throw with a 115’1″ (35.07m) and 8th in the Shot Put with a 35’1″ (10.69m)

    Men:

    Christopher A. J Smith Jr. from Clover, SC: Breaks the SIAC, Benedeict College and Stadium Record in Pole Vault with a 16′ 2″ (4.93m) Jump. This is also a Provisional Qualifying mark which he is currently ranked 8th in the Nation. He finished 3rd in the Decathalon with 5736 and 5th in the Javelin Throw with a 160’7″ (48.96m).

    Brandon Johnson Jr, from Tuscon, AZ: placed 1st in the Discus Throw with a School Record of 157’10” (48.10m), 4th in the Shot Put with a 41’2″ (12.56m), and a 6th place finish in the Hammer Throw of 113’6″ (34.60m).

    Chavis Taylor Fr, from Spartanburg, SC: placed 1st in the 800m run with 1:54.09, 6th in the 1500m run with a 4:13.56 and 7th in the 5000m run with a 17:27.48.

    Dickson Toroitich Jr. from Eldoret, Kenya: Placed 1st in the 10,000m run with a 33:58.11, 2nd in the 5000m run with a 16:19.30 and 2nd in the 3000m SC with a 9:48.80

    Hadrien Choukroun Jr, from Moutrouge, France: Placed 2nd in the Decathalon with 5996, and 2nd in the Pole Vault with a 14’3″ (4.35m)

    Darnell Washington So, From Petersburg, VA: Placed 2nd in the 200m dash with 21.82 and a 10.89 in the 100m Dash.

    Tre Adderely Fr, from Freeport, Bahamas: placed 2nd in the Javelin Throw with a School record Breaking mark of 186’1″ (56.72m), 4th in the Decathalon with a 5646, and 3rd in the Pole Vault with a 11’6″ (3.51m)

    Jamar Holmes Jr, from Millen,GA: Placed 3rd in the 400m Dash with 49.18

    4x100m Relay placed 4th with a 41.49: 1st leg: Laval Davis Sr from Anderson, SC, 2nd leg: Darnell Washington So from Petersburg, VA, 3rd leg: Corey Miles Fr, from Spartanburg, SC and 4th leg: Jamar Holmes, Jr from Millen, GA
